Common questions and solutions for LegalSum Pro

General Issues

Software is not responding or frozen
If LegalSum Pro becomes unresponsive:
Solution:
  1. Wait 30 seconds - large documents may cause temporary freezing
  2. Force quit: Cmd+Q (Mac) or Alt+F4 (Windows)
  3. Restart LegalSum Pro
  4. If problem persists, check if your document is under 50MB
Document won't analyze or fails to load
Common causes and solutions:
Check the following:
  • File size must be under 50MB
  • Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT
  • Document is not password protected
  • File is not corrupted (try opening in another program)
  • Convert the file to PDF and try again
Analysis is taking too long
Analysis time depends on document size and complexity:
Normal processing times:
  • 1-10 pages: 30-60 seconds
  • 10-50 pages: 1-3 minutes
  • 50+ pages: 3-5 minutes
If taking longer:

Close other applications to free up memory

AI & Analysis Issues

🤖 AI Status shows "Unavailable" or "Error"
The AI model needs to initialize on first use:
Solution:
  1. Wait 1-2 minutes for AI to initialize
  2. Restart LegalSum Pro if status doesn't change
  3. Ensure you have at least 4GB free disk space
  4. The app will work with reduced functionality if AI is unavailable
🤖 Analysis results seem incomplete
Incomplete analysis can occur when:
Common causes:
  • Document is partially corrupted
  • Text extraction failed (scanned PDFs without OCR)
  • Document type was incorrectly detected
Try:

Manually selecting the document type instead of auto-detect

Oregon Law Database

🏛️ Oregon law database not loading
The law database loads on startup:
Solution:
  1. Check the status bar for law count
  2. Click the 📚 button to check for updates
  3. Database works offline once loaded
  4. If zero laws show, restart the application
🏛️ How often are Oregon laws updated?
Law updates depend on legislative changes:
Update Schedule:
  • During legislative session: Weekly checks
  • Off-session: Monthly checks
  • Manual check: Click 📚 button anytime
  • Updates download automatically when available

Export & File Issues

📤 Export is not working or failing
Export issues are usually permission-related:
Solution:
  1. Check you have write permissions to the save location
  2. Ensure sufficient disk space
  3. Try a different export format
  4. Save to Desktop first, then move the file
  5. Close the document in other programs before exporting
📤 Where are my exported files saved?
Export location depends on your choice:
Default locations:
  • You choose the location when exporting
  • Check your Downloads folder
  • Recent exports appear in your system's recent files
